Placed right next to the newish Estate restaurant along Wilshire in Santa Monica, Guest Room is a fancy new speakeasy-type spot opening by this Friday, October 23 with swanky homage to the Prohibition era. Built out by O'Brien & Associates and helmed by barman Greg Bryson, the secret entrance to the place comes in through the alleyway next to Estate.

Inside, a heavy dose of Art Deco style, with some hints of modern industrial accent, the place has a refined, upscale feel with plush seating and tungsten lighting against walnut veneers. As for drinks, plenty of classics like a Tom Collins or Mary Pickford, plus more creative concoctions like an I've Still Got 99, mixing gin, strawberry cordial, lemon and a float of cava.

If you're hungry, Estate's chef Hisashi Yoshiara will pump out crispy tuna wonton "tacos" or char siu flatbread, surely things that Lucky Luciano or Al Capone did not eat in the 1930s. But hey, we're in Santa Monica, and it's 2015. The Guest Room is only open Thursday 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m.
