For the love of the lobster roll game

Munchies chats with Nikki Booth and Chloe Dahl about how their Silver Lake lobster roll shop Knuckle & Claw came to be and, surprise surprise, it's an adorable love story.

Tijuana's craft beer comes north

Apparently Tijuana's best and most revered craft beer maker, Insurgente, is coming to Los Angeles. This according to LA Weekly, who says the popular brewery plans to be selling in a few dozen accounts by the end of the month. That's good news for just about everybody.

Guelaguetza makes tortas fit for a football game

For your weekend college football viewing pleasure: Bricia Lopez of Guelaguetza making tailgate-capable tortas for Vox sister site SB Nation. If you just want the sandwich-making and could care less about the football talk, skip ahead to 2:30.

Barrel Down does… well, barrels

Apparently today is Barrel Aged Beer Day (check the calendar), and in true fashion Downtown’s Barrel Down is tapping kegs of the stuff from some of the area’s best breweries. There’s Smoking Wood from The Bruery (that’s a smoked rye porter), a wild ale from Firestone Walker, and more. Party starts at 4 p.m. sharp.

Your local coffee subscription is here

Heard of Moustache Coffee Club? Apparently the tongue-in-cheek subscription service been around for a bit, mailing out locally roasted coffee to Angelenos and beyond. Some beans they roast in-house, others get roasted by places like Portola in Orange County, and all can be delivered weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

So is your frozen pudding

Look hard enough and you might start seeing the Little Spoon cart rolling around at your next hipster party. It's not ice cream, though; it's frozen pudding. The brainchild of a pair of Angelenos, Little Spoon is starting out small (ice cream cart and private party small), but will be dishing out their banana pudding flavor at next weekend's Artisanal LA.

In tacos we trust

Petty Cash is doing 2-for-1 tacos on Sunday at their Beverly Boulevard location, beginning at noon and running all night. Sure it’s not a sports bar showing every Sunday NFL game at once, but you can’t really beat those tacos.
