Westwood’s culinary prowess continues to grow, with the upcoming arrival of walk-up window Tacos Tu Madre. Playfully incorporating a variety of ingredients within a hyper-casual dining space, the minuscule shop is meant to appeal to on-the-go UCLA’ers and anyone interested in a quick, quality meal.
The menu looks to be an interesting blend of Mexican classics like elote, and more modern creations spanning the gamut from ostrich to duck confit and foie gras. The menu will also rotate often, and has plans to run from breakfast through lunch, dinner, and even late night.
Like recent openings Blue Window next to Mud Hen and Moruno at the Original Farmers Market (and even Dinette in Echo Park before that), it seems that casual walk-up dining is having a bit of a moment in L.A. right now. Think of these options as somewhere between a food truck and a standalone restaurant, where chefs and owners can feel comfortable having a dedicated (and stationary) space in which to work, while guests get the benefit of a lower price point (thanks to the lower overhead costs) and expanded menu from what might otherwise be available on a truck.
Tacos Tu Madre is located on Westwood Boulevard in Westwood, and will officially open on November 1. To celebrate the arrival, they’ll be giving away one free taco to anyone who shows up (from the basic taco menu only, folks), as long as they're following the restaurant on Instagram. Weekly hours run from Sunday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to midnight, and Thursday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 a.m.
