Highland Park is well on its way to achieving total Eastside food and coffee dominance, with the upcoming arrival of Recess to York Boulevard. The long-gestating project should land by the end of November, marking the second location for the original Glendale institution.

Chef/owner Sevan Abdessian first opened Recess in 2009, and has been hard at work bringing this much larger location to life in Highland Park since at least 2013. Delays caused several deadlines to get pushed, but now the Spacecraft-designed 150 seater is ready to go, pending a few minor tweaks.

The plan is to keep with the school theme by making Recess Highland Park resemble a library, complete with tall shelving that wraps the room. There’s also a patio available, kitted out with olive trees and a non-functioning outdoor fireplace. And much like their Brand Boulevard original, Abdessian is opting for lunch and dinner weekday hours, with an expanded weekend menu that includes breakfast as well.

Recess Highland Park should arrive by the end of November on York.
