Just when Howlin' Ray's Hot Chicken was picking up steam on the streets, it's managed to find a home in an unlikely place: Hollywood's littlefork location. The news comes hot out of the fryer, with chef Johnny Zone's last truck stop coming November 1 at Alibi Room in Culver City.
Over at littlefork, which opened in early 2013, the doors will close this coming Sunday to make way for a quick two week conversion. Howlin' Ray's residency commences November 17 in Hollywood with a quick service, order-at-the-counter model, which will hopefully keep pricing within range of what they're offering at the truck. In addition to hot chicken, Zone will expand the menu slightly to round it out and take use of the full kitchen capabilities. Barman Brian Butler will install a whiskey-heavy drink and cocktail menu, plus some friendly beers to help assuage the spice.
Zone and his wife Amanda Chapman are partnering with David Reiss on the project, with plans to eventually do a Westside bar/hot chicken concept in the coming months. The two week switch will also bring some visual changes inside the space, with more light and a Nashville picnic-style feel. Howlin' Ray's launched earlier this year as a truck, cruising all over town and making the food festival circuit rounds.
