NYC Staple Tasti D-Lite Makes Its West Coast Debut in Santa Monica

Huge news for East Coast transplant and frozen yogurt fanatics. Tasti D-Lite, the nearly thirty-year-old New York-born frozen yogurt brand, is setting up shop in Downtown Santa Monica at 526 Wilshire Blvd.

The first West Coast outlet will open as a co-branded Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie shop, serving up all kinds of frozen, low calorie treats. Tasti D-Lite is an frozen yogurt-like dessert, but is lower in calories, carbs, and sugar than its cohorts. Miraculously, Tasti D-Lite claims to use no artificial sweeteners and uses real dairy and sugar, and is supposedly only 70 calories a serving.

The Santa Monica branch will follow the popular self-serve model, and will offer a 16 ounce serving of all-you-can-swirl soft serve for $4.50, with the option of an unlimited topping bar for $1.50 more. Rotating flavors will include acai tart 'n tasti, peanut butter fudge batter, Nutella, rice pudding and chocolate mousse.

Planet Smoothie will blend up 35 real fruit smoothie varieties that utilize a Stevia-based sweetener. Tasti/Planet will also serve Peet's Coffee, acai bowls, and meal replacement bars for a true one-stop afternoon-pick-me-up shop.

Tasti D-Light and Planet Smoothie is due to open in November, with plans to expand throughout Southern California.
