McCall's Meat & Fish Assembling New Restaurant Along Hillhurst in Los Feliz

In the former San-Sui space, as suspected.

As reported earlier this summer, it looks like the McCall’s Meat and Fish Co. team is indeed angling to open up a restaurant all their own — just don’t expect it to arrive tomorrow.

Previously, paperwork pointed to a pending ABC license under the name L’Ami Restaurant, with an attached LLC that led straight back to the Hillhurst address for McCall’s in Los Feliz. At the time, McCall's wouldn't confirm that they were indeed taking over, but now that their beer and wine license is a go it seems the issue is settled.

The longtime operator on the proposed new McCall’s restaurant site, once San-Sui, had been open when the news first broke of the switcheroo, but has since closed. Now, the only thing between owner Nathan McCall and his new eatery is time.

So what will the restaurant likely become when it does arrive? There are plans to do casual daytime service only, likely relying on those same small batch producers that have made McCall’s Meat and Fish such a shopping destination over the years. When reached for comment, Nathan McCall said the place will be quaint and neighborhood-focused, but declined to offer a starting date.

Still, good news for the Los Feliz neighborhood, which of late has been giving way to Silver Lake in the "hip neighborhood with great places to eat" category.
