Seemingly out of nowhere comes Pie Life Pizza, a New York style slice joint tucked into a tiny, tiny space next to Jones Coffee in Pasadena. It’s not exactly hidden, but you’d have to know what you’re looking for to spot the place, cozied up next to Pasadena’s favorite coffee roasters in a small little lot on Raymond Avenue.

Luckily the pizza is telling a big story, as evidenced by the excited first round of Yelpers who discovered the place. Apparently most folks are coming through after sniffing the creations while grabbing a cup of coffee next door, only to discover a seatless storefront (well, there are a handful of table and chair options out on the patio) serving whole pies and slices to go. Much like Burgerlords in Chinatown, the idea here is to keep a small footprint and serve quality food through a take out window at a lower price point. Everybody wins.

It’s a method that seems to be working so far. Whole pies run under $20 and come in the usual rainbow of flavors, from cheese to pepperoni to buffalo chicken. The daily slice selection varies, but usually includes a few of the more popular and safe choices.

Right now, Pie Life Pizza keeps daily hours from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., but they’re still just getting up and running so things could change as the small space starts to flex its muscles more. They also do wood-fired off site pizza catering, apparently.
