A customer left an anti-immigration remark on his tipline at Redondo Beach restaurant Bamboo Thai Bistro instead of a standard gratuity last Wednesday, according to NBCNews. The $22.84 check had the line, "Tip for U.S. Citizens Only," whose image quickly went viral on social media. The staff isn't sure how a photo of the receipt got out, but the restaurant is saying that, "it must've been a customer who took a picture."

In an NBC News clips, the server's coworker said she was one of the best employees they had on staff. The server is currently on a working visa in the U.S. and hopes to get a green card to provide a better life for her two children. A coworker stated that the server doesn't deserve this kind of treatment because she's here paying taxes but doesn't get to receive any of the benefits of being a citizen.

NBC kept the identity of the customer under wraps because they weren't able to obtain his side of the story, but social media users haven't been as even handed, going so far as to publicly shame the diner.
