The Wallflower has been soft open for a few weeks now on eastern edge of Rose Avenue in Venice. The swell but compact indoor-outdoor space has a feature that hasn't quite caught on with the neighborhood: a full-on coffee setup by Demitasse and a daily Southeast-Asian inspired breakfast.

Start off with a five-spice cappuccino (which is great hot or served up cold), a minty Cuban coffee, or brewed coffee to order. Or delve into a housemade chai or chai latte for something that reflects the Indonesian fare. Breakfast might be a chicken porridge with crispy shallots or a black rice porridge with coconut cream and caramelized bananas for something sweeter. Round out the food bits with a pound cake with pandan glaze and sour cream or rujak, a spicy fruit salad with tamarind dip and peanut crumbs.

Daytime hours run 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
