Estrella debuts lunch with hip all-day eatery vibes

The newest entrant to the Sunset Strip dining scene, Estrella has kicked off lunch service this week. Chef Dakota Weiss' undeniably cool restaurant in the IAC building will be an ideal one-stop-shop for office workers and West Hollywood denizens looking for a quick bite or cozy place to work. Think Peking duck Cobb salad, grilled porchetta sandwiches, and a slew of grab-n-go items. —CC

Paying it forward

The server who was working at Bamboo Thai Bistro and received a racist, anti-immigration tip has been getting some over the top gratuities from diners. According to Grubstreet, people have been leaving up to 50% tips and leaving notes like, "sorry you had to deal with that man."

Bring on the Lemonade

Taking over the prime spot vacated by Rockenwagner Bakery nearby the Third Street Promenade, Lemonade began service two days ago in Santa Monica. The friendly all-day cafeteria-style eatery was originally slated to open in spring.

A big time New York chef cooks in Venice

Justin Smillie, who actually hails from Southern California and helms the kitchen at New York City's Upland, is cooking a dinner at the Rose in Venice this coming Saturday to promote his cookbook Slow Fires. The seated dinner starts at 7 p.m. and runs $125 per person. The price includes a signed cookbook, dinner, and beverage pairing. Tickets this way.

Cavatina at the Sunset Marquis has a new chef

Jonathan Kim has been crowned the new executive chef at the elegant West Hollywood hotel restaurant. Anticipate a new menu and slate of dishes beginning mid-December.

Last-minute Thanksgiving day wire

The Redbury in Hollywood has a swell turkey day special at Cleo they're calling Clepatra's Feast. A whole slew of mezzes, apps, entrees and desserts run just $65 per person, with seatings at 3, 5, and 7 p.m.
