SusieCakes Clogs Up La Brea With Yet Another Bakery Option Today

La Brea’s already overstuffed Bakery Row — helmed by Republique, La Brea Bakery, Sycamore Kitchen and, for a time, La Boulange — is adding another notch to its belt, this time from local name SusieCakes. A tipster writes in to say that the local cupcake specialists, who hold nearly 20 locations across both Northern and Southern California, have put in a brand new outpost at 328 S. La Brea, just south of Third Street.

The completely redone address used to be nothing more than a parking lot, before construction started on a two-story building last winter. Now the place is up and running smoothly, with a quiet SusieCakes unveiling over the weekend showing off the finished interior. The space is clean and simple with a takeaway cafe vibe similar to nearby competitors like Magnolia Bakery on West Third Street.

As of Monday, the usual array of cupcakes, layer cakes, cookies, and bars will be available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily (excluding Sundays) at the La Brea location. As time goes on, it’ll be interesting to see how the new shop fits into the pastry and bakery dominance already underway in that part of town, particularly with other adjacent newcomers like Cake Monkey on Beverly coming to life.
