Over the holiday weekend, Roy Choi announced in social media that he was stepping down from his role as chef at Sunny Spot in Venice.  Through the announcement, we learned that he was originally just slated to be a consultant for the Jamaican-inspired restaurant along Washington Blvd, but his tenure lasted four years.

Says Choi, "I never thought I'd be there long. It developed into a family and lots of drunk brunches and Irie vibes along the way. But they are in a good place now and they don't need me. It's time to move on."

The chef also stated that this would allow him to focus more on fast food spot Locol, which is building out in Watts on schedule for a debut later this month. Choi still manages the menus at partner David Reiss's Alibi Room and A-Frame in Culver City.
