Blazing Stone Pizza Brings All-Day Slices to Underserved El Sereno

Pizza for everyone!

Farley Elliott is the Senior Editor at Eater LA and the author of Los Angeles Street Food: A History From Tamaleros to Taco Trucks. He covers restaurants in every form, from breaking news to the culture, people, and history that surrounds LA's dining landscape.

Someone with a hankering for pizza in El Sereno finally decided to do something about the neighborhood’s lack of slice joints. Enter Blazing Stone Pizza, a customizable full pie and slice option now open on Monterey Road.

The Eastsider has all the details on the up and coming option, which is the two and a half year-old brainchild of owner Hugo Izquierdo. Apparently the shop came about because Izquierdo found himself always needing to drive to neighboring areas to get his pizza fix, so after many frustrating nights in the car he decided to do something about it.

That ultimately culminated in taking over a space that had been dormant for two decades, and required quite a bit of cleanup in order to finalize. The results are staggering though, with Blazing Stone showing none of the previous wear and tear. Instead, the sleek space has been completely opened up to natural light, with comfy diner-style counter seating and loads of outdoor patio space.

The pies don’t look bad either, with options for thin crust, ‘house’ crust, or hearty, which presumably comes somewhere close to pan pizza status. There are also customizable sauce options — one is blazing, which presumably means exceedingly spicy — and pre-designed takes like BBQ chicken and The Parmesan, which is topped with breaded chicken.

Blazing Stone Pizza opened in September, and currently runs hours Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
