Wirtshaus Doubles Down With New German Beer and Sausage Spot in Hermosa Beach

The similarly-conceived location is to be called Brat & Brau.

More than just an Oktoberfest occasion spot, La Brea’s Wirtshaus has settled in to become a neighborhood favorite. The mix of quality sausages, casual environment, and large German beer list seems to resonate with folks, so owners Bjoern Risse and Buelent Yildirim have decided to take what works and format it into a new concept called Brat & Brau in Hermosa Beach.

The new South Bay location lands inside the former Number Nine Vietnamese restaurant address on Hermosa Avenue, right at the corner with 14th Street. Risse says the build-out is basically done — and there’s a beer and wine license at the ready — so a soft opening could go down as early as next week.

The plan for now is to make Brat & Brau an exceedingly casual eatery for the area, relying on housemade sausages and a wide selection of German beers, plus the usual array of pretzels, sauerkraut, and whatnot. Apparently the place will be exclusively German in its beer collection, including a few craft options that are only being made in small batches overseas, and are otherwise unavailable here.

Brat & Brau is currently hiring up (per their website), and hopes to open just about any day now.
