L.A.’s latest food bubble may well be ice cream, as evidenced by the amazing array of options still flooding into the city almost daily. Case in point: Afters Ice Cream, the milk bun ice cream sandwich option that’s now open over in Pasadena.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Afters has landed on the scene. The popular shop already enjoys locations in a few different Orange County areas, as well as Long Beach. Now they’ve set up shop on Green Street, inside the former gas station holdover home of Motordogs.
The place has been almost entirely kitted out in Afters logos now (though in a nod to the longtime kitsch of the space, the old gas station pumps are still hanging around), which, per LAist, was something the three Afters owners wanted to make sure to keep around.
Rocking a variety of ice cream flavors, from Vietnamese coffee to lemon lime sorbet, Afters is all about customization. Customers first choose their scoop of choice, then add in fillings as necessary. Once complete, their ice cream option is shoved inside of a milk bun and sealed up entirely — it’s sort of an ice cream cookie sandwich meets ice cream doughnut scenario, though regular scoops are also available.
The newest Pasadena location is now open, and will keep daily hours from noon to midnight, which should be a blessing for nearby CalTech kids.
