Looks like Chic Wine Bar in Mid-City has poured its last sip, per multiple reports. Locals say the place has been papered up for more than a week now, and this two-star Yelp excoriation says December 14 was their last day of service.

Indeed, a call to the restaurant confirms the shutter. When asked what might be next for the space, ownership said only that they’d be retooling into the new year with hopes to revive the location in one form or another. That likely means a different concept than the French-leaning, wine-focused days of Chic gone by, but as for any new details on what’s to come, it’s all still up in the air.

Chic’s passing leaves a hole along that stretch of Pico Boulevard, which has seen steadily rising rents as the neighborhood prospers, but has yet to garner the sort of restaurant attention that other neighborhoods are getting. Relative newcomer My Two Cents has given the area a boost, but there’s still room for plenty more. Here’s to hoping Chic can reemerge in the new year with something equally engaging.
