Earlier this month, Silver Lake locals started chattering about an ominous glowing light that had suddenly showed up in their neighborhood overnight. It read Donut Farm, and it meant that vegan doughnuts were on their way.

Well as it turns out there’s nothing to be afraid of, as Donut Farm is a sort of shortened version of Pepples Donuts (aka Pepples Donut Farm), which operates a storefront in Oakland and does a brisk wholesale business throughout the Bay Area. They’re now expanding into their very own LA strip mall space in Silver Lake (in the former PK’s Donuts & Ice Cream, in fact), at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Benton. Signage is already up, of course, and Pepples says the shop should be open by next month.

So what can you expect when Donut Farm finally does land in Los Angeles? All-vegan, all-organic doughnuts, for one, with rotating seasonal ingredients. There’s also a good chance that the shop will offer more than just coffee and sweets, as their Oakland location does weekend brunch as well (all vegan, of course).

Look for Donut Farm to start competing in the busy LA doughnut market just about any day now.
