The final days of Ari Taymor's Alma were rocky, to say the least, but the LA Times confirms today that the restaurant will return as a three-month pop-up inside the Standard Hotel, Hollywood. Despite a nasty lawsuit and a successful crowdfunding campaign, Bon Appetit's best new restaurant of 2013 came to a sad shutter on October 24.
The chef hinted before the restaurant's untimely closure that it could live on as a pop-up, and now it seems as if the ride isn't completely over. Beginning next Tuesday, December 8, Taymor, along with partner Ashleigh Parsons, will take over the in-house restaurant in the Sunset Boulevard hotel, offering some of the same dishes that skyrocketed Taymor to culinary fame.
Unlike the original Downtown restaurant though, the Standard pop-up will offer only a la carte selections as opposed to a tasting menu, completing the restaurant's trajectory to becoming more accessible to all.
It's a fitting end for the restaurant that originally started as a pop-up, and a nice way to get one last taste of Alma's signature dishes like hay-roasted potato with goat's milk and lovage.
The Alma residency will run from December 8 through the end of February, Sunday to Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to midnight.
