Something other than Langer's and tamales.

MacArthur Park is usually bustling with activity, but the dining options aren't as generous as they should be. Sure there's the iconic Langer's, and the tamale vendor here and there, but it's nice to see some fresh air coming in through PopKitch, opening December 7.

Serving daytime favorites like poached eggs with chorizo, wild mushroom and gruyere quiche, and sliced grilled achiote chicken, the place will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu comes via caterer Marcos Rodriguez, who grew up on the Eastside and wanted to bring something different to the area.

Also on the menu, a kielbasa roll with a roasted vegetable medley, vegetarian quesadilla with street-style corn, and sliced grilled tenderloin with yukon potato puree. Everything's available for takeout, plus office catering, which should work for cubicle warriors nearby.
