The uber-popular Beverly Blvd Mexican spot, Petty Cash Taqueria (an Eater 38 pick) will expand to the burgeoning Downtown LA area. It's to take over the Fifty Seven Restaurant in the Arts District. Restaurateur Bill Chait (Bestia, Broken Spanish) took over the space from Beau Laughlin (The Hudson, The Churchill) and has already started re-working the interior. Chait anticipates opening during summer.

Chef Walter Manzke's Mexican menu features all kinds of great options. Soon, Downtown LA residents will be able to indulge in the Bomb.com appetizer, which is an elevated guacamole with sea urchin and chicharrones. Other options include a ceviche bar, quesadillas, and innovative tacos using handmade tortillas.

Julian Cox is behind the bar program and plans to revitalize the low-key basement space, which had hosted live music on weekends during Fifty Seven's stay. Will Petty Cash be able to draw a steady crowd, like neighbor Bestia?
