There’s been an apparent update to the weeks-long Tip Jar Bandit cold case that has held the Westside in its clutches.
Per LA Weekly crime reporter Dennis Romero, the red handed pilferer was caught late last week after a concerned customer on the 9600 block of Brighton Way in Beverly Hills caught wind of the scam in action and alerted the proper authorities. The thieving non-customer is alleged to be one Jessica Shub, a 20 year old from Beverly Hills. It’s an odd place of residence for a petty criminal scraping for change, given the typically ritzy nature of the neighborhood, but it also makes sense given the radius of the incidents in question.
The video that first made Shub a wanted woman comes from Slicetruck on Sawtelle, where the alleged robber can be seen asking a few roundabout menu questions while "on the phone" and then pilfering the tip jar multiple times when the solo employee briefly leaves his post. Nearby Seoul Sausage has also come under fire, as did Komodo on Pico Blvd. The latter happened multiple times, leading owner Eric Tjahyadi to put a year-long free taco bounty on the thief’s head.
Shub was arrested last week, and her bail set at $20,000. Technically the crime is only a lower level misdemeanor, but it seems that jail time could be in order for the grab and go bandit.
