Alexander Chu's been thinking about what to do with his stellar dim sum concept that was rolling around on wheels. Well, he's found a permanent new takeout spot on Sawtelle called New School Kitchen, which opened over the weekend serving an array of fresh dim sum and even some traditional specials like Hainan chicken and pork belly bao.

It's more evidence that the same kind of diner who's willing to drive out to SGV wants that kind of food on the Westside. While Little Hong Kong Cafe gets a revamp, places like MJ Cafe Express and CoCo continue to bring that SGV vibe to Sawtelle.

Choices for dim sum include shu mai (pork, shrimp, mushroom), har gow (shrimp and bamboo), gow choy (shrimp and chive), shaking beef bun, curry chicken bun, and tofu & chive bun. Any of those can be mixed and matched for $8.95 for three, and $13.95 for five (that averages out to about $3 or less per order, which isn't a bad deal at all).

At the moment, New School Kitchen is open for lunch from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
