Opening Alert: Grounded Coffee Works the Late Shift on Melrose

The shop sells fōnuts and Stumptown coffee until 2 a.m.

While Melrose Avenue recently lost a gem in Hatfield’s, the fine dining destination from Quinn and Karen Hatfield (who have since moved over to their more casual space Odys + Penelope), they’ve gained a great new coffee shop in Grounded Coffee.

Just steps away from Hatfield’s, Grounded is a month-old coffee outpost that should at once feel pretty familiar. There’s the roughly lacquered wooden tables, the raised bar seating around the windows that overlook the front, the Stumptown Coffee beans in the grinder.

But peek a bit further in and you’ll see lots of available seating, plenty of plugs and enough WiFi to satisfy everyone — plus an array of teas and a deli case full of fōnuts and pastries from Sugar Bloom.

Better still, Grounded Coffee is open daily until 2 a.m. True late night/early morning coffee shops are a relative rarity in Los Angeles, though nearby Insomnia on Beverly keeps the midnight oil going too.

Coffee starts brewing at 8 a.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. on weekends.
