Northern Thai Food Comes Alive at Thai District in Downtown Long Beach

The new stop is a welcome return for chef Andre Angles.

Downtown Long Beach's food scene is getting stronger than ever, most recently welcoming in a newcomer from the former chef of renowned Frenchy's Bistro. Chef Andre Angles and Thai chef/ pastry specialist Ty Theara have joined forces to land Thai District into the East Village Arts District.

Filling the void of Thai cuisine in the booming dining destination, Angles and Theara soft-opened Thai District on Wednesday evening in the space that most recently housed Moroccan restaurant Asha.

Thai District shares the historic Broadlind building with The Blind Donkey and The Greenhouse, but is the sole food-focused locale. While nearly all of Long Beach's Thai restaurants focus thee efforts on specialties of the country's central region, Chef Theara is bringing in his family recipes from Northern Thailand to join the party, which means brighter, citrus-y dishes done with modern touches. —Matthew Bragman
