Looks like Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will hit Los Feliz on Friday, just in time to help bust this god-awful early spring heat wave. The exceedingly popular Midwestern dessert shop has been under construction for weeks now, with hopes of pushing towards a spring unveiling. Well, the time is now.
West Coasters can now wait in line like the rest of America for ice creams from founder Jeni Britton Bauer. And, this being the first left coast addition to the growing brand, an absurdly healthy-sounding dedicated flavor (available only in L.A.) will be continually on offer: wheatgrass, pear and vinho verde sorbet. Cue eye rolling at wheatgrass sorbet.
Jeni’s will also pack pints for takeaway, much like McConnell’s and Salt & Straw before them, which means customers swill no longer need to hit the frozen food aisle or wait for home delivery in order to experience the fresh ice creams and sorbets.
Following the shop’s Friday debut, daily hours will begin at noon and run through 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
