Ask and you shall receive, Highland Park. Just days after upstart coffee company Kindness & Mischief noted the surprising lack of speciality coffee along Figueroa Avenue, Tierra Mia Coffee has popped up with a full-fledged location just off the main boulevard.
After a tongue-in-cheek "top secret" post on their Facebook page that hinted at the impending arrival of lattes, cappuccinos and specialty espresso drinks, Tierra Mia’s shop is now up and running. Tucked onto Monte Vista St., a couple blocks behind Figueroa and right between Avenues 55 and 56, Tierra Mia aims to become the neighborhood’s first big-time coffee operator.
As of Monday, daily hours run from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the shop, which offers clean lines and lots of subway tile. Some small cafe seating is possible inside, with a few shaded seats on the sidewalk as well, under a couple of umbrellas. "It’s within the neighborhood," Tierra Mia owner (and Highland Park resident) Ulysses Romero told The Eastsider, "It’s sort of a neighborhood spot that people can walk to from their homes."
As for that incoming Kindness & Mischief coffee shop? They haven’t reached their goal yet, but still plan to land along busier Figueroa Avenue soon.
