Students and faculty at USC will no longer have to drive across town to Diddy Riese for their ice cream sandwich fix: Cookies Rule Everything Around Me (or CREAM), the Berkeley-based cookie/ice cream sandwich shop that's been serving those smartypants up north at Cal since 2010, is opening a franchise in the University Gateway complex across the street from USC this Saturday.
Los Angeles franchise owner Hector Haget stated in an interview with Eater LA that ice cream sandwiches Saturday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. will cost exactly zero dollar dollar bills, y'all. So don't get the money, do get the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut with Cinnamon Chill and take comfort in the fact that sometimes, the sweetest things in life really are free.
The franchise has already opened nine locations in Northern California, including one that opened in San Francisco in the summer of last year, with 11 more locations planned according to the company's website. Though there are more franchises planned in San Diego, Irvine and Aliso Viejo, the USC location is the only one in Los Angeles County so far.
