Science-y dessert shop Ice Cream Lab has officially put on goggles and strapped in for its tenure in Little Tokyo. The high-tech creamery already operates a storefront in Beverly Hills, but announced plans last fall about an incoming foray into both Little Tokyo and Pasadena.
Downtown’s location next to Spitz on 2nd Street quietly opened doors this week. The colorful shop is outfitted in a sort of Day-Glo blue, with graffiti’d walls and lots of glowing, backlit shelving. It’s a scene straight from Dexter’s Laboratory in there.
The ice cream and frozen yogurt is just as scientific; Ice Cream Lab makes theirs to order, using liquid nitrogen to freeze the results instantly. It’s a concept by way of Joseph Lifschutz and Tommy Ngan, and is at least popular enough to have spawned three shops in two years.
Ice Cream Lab is now open daily from noon to at least 11 p.m. (they push to midnight Thursday - Saturday nights).
