Musician Joe Jonas picked a clever spot for his first restaurant venture in Santa Monica. Converting the former Joe's Diner, which had lived on Main Street for over 27 years, the heartthrob announced via Twitter and Instagram that he had finally debuted Hinterland on March 4 after almost nine months of construction.
Though details of the eatery are murky, early reports indicate that the fare is a seasonal Southern Atlantic (think Charleston and Savannah) restaurant using local produce, with a full raw bar. A 41 license grants beer & wine service, hence Joe Jonas' very necessary photo with Cristal champagne to celebrate the opening.
Early Instagram reports show Jonas' ex-girlfriend Camilla Belle raving about her old beau's place while singer Paris Carney was all about the food and ambiance.
New York restaurateurs Matthew Hechter and Chris Brandon (The Heyward, Hudson Clearwater) are behind this venture, which makes sense since their two Big Apple spots tend to be secretive, low-key operations that draw culinary inspiration from the Carolinas.
The only food photos that have been released come via partner Arsen Vasquez, who tweeted fairly standard dishes like frisee salad, mussels with crusty bread, and grilled octopus. Meanwhile, Ryan Paul Der also strongly recommended the pork chop via Instagram.
At the moment, there's no word on the hours or reservation policy, though it seems celeb-crazed fans could always try bum-rushing the diminutive restaurant to see if they can catch a gaze at the hunky Jonas brother.
