Opening Alert: Auntie Em's Kitchen Is Already Baking Away Downtown

The 5th Street location took only weeks to come together.

What a turnaround. After only first hearing news a few weeks ago that Eagle Rock mainstay Auntie Em’s Kitchen was opening a second location downtown, the space on 5th Street appears to be up and running.

Decorations are hung, cake stands in place, and a few hand-drawn images of pies and fruits and vegetables have shown up on the glass out front. Inside, brick walls and a handwritten chalkboard menu give the place a down-home feel, complete with a wide wooden communal table for seating.

This is a big move for Auntie Em’s and owner Terri Wahl, who have spent more than a decade making a name for themselves in relatively sleepy Eagle Rock. They’re now betting big that a second location near some of the biggest restaurants in town will bring the name to new heights. Of course, their signature pastries, breads and red velvet cake are also happy to do the talking for them.
