Charlie's Pantry in Studio City Gives Way to All-Day Healthy Cafe Comoncy

It's the second L.A. location for the Beverly Hills newbie.

Just over a year ago, daytime coffee shop Comoncy opened its doors in Beverly Hills, pouring espresso drinks from Equator Coffee and serving up healthy-ish fare to the Bedford Drive area. Now, they’re moving into a second location in Studio City (third if you count one in Arizona).

The new location comes at a cost, though. Namely, Charlie’s Pantry on Ventura Blvd., which shuttered at the end of last month after opening in 2011. Yelpers had not been kind to the Pantry of late, and it seems that after four years in the game it was time for management to move on.

So in comes Comoncy, which one tipster says is already in full build-out mode, complete with a new awning bearing their name. Comoncy ownership can't give a timeline for their opening, but they're the same folks who own the Coral Tree Cafe mini-chain (plus Baltaire), so it's safe to say they know what they're doing.

It’s a bit of an odd corner location in a strip mall off Ventura and Laurelgrove; the street-level cafe space always looks like it’s being crushed by the much bigger, brasher California Pizza Kitchen above it. Additionally, Comoncy already faces some stiff specialty coffee competition in the neighborhood, from the Red Window walk-up to an incoming Alfred CoffeeStill, there seems to be no better time to get in on the Valley action than right now, when Ventura Blvd in particular is blowing up.
