Cadet's always been jammed packed at night, but expect a slightly different experience during the day, when the large street-facing windows help the place fill up with light. Kris Tominaga officially commences lunch service at his Santa Monica restaurant today, with hours running Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Try out the roasted chicken and watercress salad, loaded with fennel, pistachio, and fried shallots, or perhaps delve into a sandwich, like the croque madame with country ham and comte, or the beef brisket dip. Prices range about $14-18 for entree-size salads (pretty much the main staple for health-conscious Westsiders) to $13-15 sandwiches, which doesn't sound too expensive off the bat. For a more composed lunch, Tominaga is preparing a wood-roasted lamb shoulder with warm lentil salad, or a grilled bavette steak with farro, spinach, and tomato. Sadly, the amazing rabbit meatballs remain on dinner's offerings. Check out the full menu below.
In addition, barkeep Gaby Mlynarczyk is making some daytime-friendly "mocktails" so you can go back to the office with a coherent mind. Think a hop lemonade or garden mojito. Once that back patio opens, Cadet will be an easy choice for a business or casual lunch in Santa Monica.
