Civil Coffee Will Bring Even More Specialty Coffee To Exceedingly Caffeinated Highland Park

The Morales brothers are getting in on the action.

The high-end coffee train keeps making stops in Highland Park. This time last year, the options for $5 lattes were few and far between, but just in the past few months alone, the area has become an absolute hotbed for single-origin pourovers and ten-minute cortados.

Next up to the station is Civil Coffee, a small shop run by brothers Alex and Alan Morales. Both men were on the opening team at Handsome Coffee back in the day, before launching Civil Coffee as a mobile coffee operation, pouring everywhere from weddings to outdoor festivals. Now that they’ve landed along Figueroa in Highland Park, the two have plans to expand their options, and the roasters that they work with. They’ve also brought in Tyler Wells as a consulting partner to help open the shop, while local Highland Park designer Charisse Cardenas reformats the interior.

As the team continues to work on the details of their shop, they’ll be putting on various pop-ups across Highland Park, giving away lots of free coffee in the process. None of the dates have been announced yet, but when they happen the details will pop up through Civil Coffee’s various social media channels. They’ll also be hosting a few larger parties on their way to opening in the neighborhood.

Near their Figueroa Street location is the upcoming Verve Coffee location as well as the Kickstarted Kindness & Mischief. Just around the corner is Tierra Mia, and they even fancied up that hideous Starbucks not long ago. As it turns out, Highland Park might just on the verge of becoming the new go-to coffee stop in town.
