The former Faith & Flower bartender had landed at Brilliantshine for a hot minute.

Michael Lay, who had created Faith & Flower's excellent drink menu (and at least one irresistible cocktail in the English Milk Punch), has now landed as the beverage director at Ray Garcia's Broken Spanish and B.S. Taqueria alongside Julian Cox's initial program. Lay had been one of three contenders for Eater LA's Bartender of the Year for 2014.

The addition is one mighty feather in the cap for Garcia's burgeoning Downtown empire, which will debut Broken Spanish in the former Rivera space in the next few months. But until then, Lay is introducing a $6 mezcal Last Word, plus $6 tequila shots on Cinco de Mayo at B.S. Taqueria. Oh don't worry, that tequila or mezcal shot does come with a little chaser of sangrita verde.
