Lodge Bread Co.'s Naturally Leavened Loaves Rising in Culver City

New, 2 comments

Think hearty country loaves, with cashew butter spread on top.

There just isn't enough great bread in Los Angeles, and Lodge Bread Co. is hoping to change that a bit when it opens in late summer in Culver City along Washington Blvd. Armed with a massive Bassanina oven, Alex Phaneuf and Or Amsalam will be heading the operation with naturally leavened, wild-fermented bread. Think a hearty country loaf with red winter wheat, or a country loaf covered with crunchy seeds. In addition, Phaneuf will be serving up a slew of nut butters, like peanut, almond, and cashew to spread on said loaves.

The aesthetic will very much reflect a mid-century design, thanks to Omgivning, who's also done places like The Must and Artisan House in Downtown. Lodge has already been selling to a few places around town, like Paper or Plastik, Picca, and Bar Nine Collective, among others.
