Chef and owner Jason Harley (Pici, Parq), has finally opened the doors of his much delayed casual chicken and waffle joint Mabel's in Downtown LA. Ever since Eater LA first caught word in 2013, the place has been postponed because of the whole building's reconstruction. Now that it's been resolved, the grand opening is set for the end of the month.
For Mabel's fried chicken, think dark meat or white meat, crisped to perfection. The free range, organic chicken gets marinaded every morning at 4 a.m. before getting racked up for a minimum of three hours. For the waffles, syrups include maple grove syrup, jalapeño vanilla bean, or roasted bacon maple. For a quick lunch, grab a combo that includes two pieces of fried chicken, waffle, coleslaw or potato salad for $14.
For now, Mabel's is only opened for lunch, though there are some soft dinner hours commence this week. Open daily from 11 a.m. until they run out of chicken.
