Culver City's western reaches are getting more popular by the day. Most recently, Humble Potato dropped a second location of their burgeoning Japanese-inspired burger concept onto Washington Blvd., right next to Sunny Blue and across the street from the redone A-Frame. And soon, just steps away from Humble Potato, there will be lots and lots of seafood.
That's thanks to Tangaroa Fish Market & Raw Bar, an upcoming New Zealand-themed concept on the corner of W. Washington Blvd. and Mildred Ave. The rehabbed 1,800 sq. ft. space first landed on Loopnet last year as a shell for an incoming restaurant concept, and by June word was out that Tangaroa was coming onto the scene. Since then it's been a slow build for the team there, which includes this ABC permit request for beer and wine posted way back in October.
Walking by yesterday, it's clear that construction is still underway inside. The windows are papered up and there's much to be done, but by all accounts Tangaroa is coming along. The chef for the project, one Travis Limoge, has even been teasing Facebook with upcoming menu items for the restaurant — like this beer and pork belly mussels dish — though that was back in March.
For now, social media accounts for Tangaroa Fish Market are dormant, but given the activity inside the actual building, it's likely they'll be back up and building anticipation in no time. Not that the area needs it; food-lovers are already flocking to this part of Culver City, ready to eat at the forthcoming Hatchet Hall, and whatever else they can find.
