Salt & Straw has made quite a splash in LA, with its Larchmont location perpetually slammed with a line that snakes out of the building. The Portland-based ice cream operation is embracing its newfound home in LA with summer ice cream flavors that celebrate Los Angeles' street food scene and local produce.
The Salt & Straw Street Food series will run from June 4 to July 2, and will feature collaborations by food truck maven Roy Choi and Border Grill duo Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger. Choi's flavor, Papi's Korean Fluffernutter, takes Korean and Beijing-style boiled nuts to make a peanut ice cream swirled with Thai chili-infused blackberry jam and marshmallow fluff. Milliken and Feniger will showcase their signature Latin flair with their Green Corn Tamales flavor.
Also on deck are Wurstküche's Bratwursts and Mustard ice cream with chunks of sausage, and Guelaguetza's Molé Rojo Flan flavor. Yum?
July's Berry Series offers much less outrageous flavors like strawberry banana split and Meyer lemon buttermilk with blueberries. The weird factor will be kicked up in August for the Vegetable Series featuring green fennel and maple, garam masala and cinnamon cauliflower, and tomato water and Ojai olive oil sherbert. Find all the flavors here.
