New Orleans-themed restaurants have been popping up in Los Angeles, with Little Jewel and Preux & Proper slinging po' boys and daiquiris to Angelenos craving a taste of NOLA. Opening Wednesday, May 20, another shiny New Orleans concept, Royal, will be added to the list. Well, sort of.
Hollywood's Big Easy-themed restaurant, Five0Four, has undergone a bit of a facelift by owners Joshua Kopel and Mark Egland, the very same proprietors behind Preux & Proper in Downtown. Just like Five0Four, the upcoming Royal will take inspiration from the French Quarter, only this time with more of an "elegant decay" feel with distressed window panes and treated brick accents.
The big change comes with the revamped food and beverage program. Preux & Proper chef Michael Ruiz is taking over the kitchen with a wide selection of po' boys, including the Spanish chorizo with manchego, tomato, sweet pepper spread, and olive salad, plus Gulf shrimp with marinated cucumber, carrot, radish, herbs and hot sauce aioli.
A curated beverage program that comes by way of Pablo Moix (Scopa Italian Roots, The Chestnut Club), really steps up the restaurant's cocktail game, with classics, original libations, punch bowls, and a slew of frozen daiquiri machines.
Royal will be open from 4 p.m. to 2 p.m. daily serving happy hour, dinner, and late night.
