Relais de Paris in Beverly Hills Delayed as Santa Barbara Outlet Shutters For Remodel

The forthcoming steak frites franchise Relais de Paris has been hoping to make a go of things in the former Carson House space in Beverly Hills, transforming the location into an airy all-day spot for pastries, lunchtime power meals, and late night cocktails. After a first glimpse of the interior changes back in March, the ownership team pushed for an April debut that has since come and gone.

So where does the hopeful Wilshire restaurant stand as of now? Well, they’ve got an active ABC license and were pretty close to shoring up the final details some two months ago. When reached for comment in April, the team referenced a few permit delays with the city that had tripped them up, but since then no further word.

However, a look up in Santa Barbara confirms that the restaurant’s sister property, also a Relais de Paris located right on bustling State St., is currently down for the count. Though the OpenTable is still active and a note on the door (and on their website) references a renovation only, there’s nothing seemingly going on inside the space by way of construction, and no one is answering the phone or emails up that way. Even their Facebook is long dormant, with no mention of a renovation, and the most recent Yelp review dates back to January.

So is Santa Barbara’s Relais de Paris headed for a shutter as their Beverly Hills locale continues its tortured delay? Ownership isn’t confirming anything so far, but let’s hope the the eatery will reopen any day now. With the arrival of Nuance in Santa Barbara’s growing Funk Zone arts district (and its growing food scene overall) and the upcoming Purple Line extension down in Beverly Hills, both Relais de Paris locations have all the reason in the world to stick around.
