Big news for Downtown bar/lounge stalwart The Edison. As of yesterday, word has spread that the "Industrial Gothic" drink space is expanding — to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, of all places.

The plan is for Patina Group and Andrew Meieran (who is also in the midst of a Clifton’s Cafeteria revamp) to bring a re-imagining of the popular Downtown L.A. space to the new Disney Springs, which is going to be the Florida theme park’s updated version of Downtown Disney. Per a press release on the move, the Disney World Resort landscape is looking to drastically change in the coming years, with an influx of entertainment and dining options along the waterfront.

For The Edison itself, designers are hoping to mock up a look that’s similar to what Los Angeles already gets to enjoy in Downtown, complete with the mechanics and the dim lighting. However, this being a place of wonder and whimsy, the 1920’s era restaurant will be further separated into themed areas, like a Telegraph Lounge and Patent Office, complete with live music, palm readers, and contortionists.

The Disney team hopes to see The Edison arrive in Florida sometime in 2016.
