While the Arts District continues to wait for the massive 40,000 square feet Iron Triangle brewery to open up, another beer operation is quietly kicking things off nearby. Known as Mumford Brewing, the locally-basedl brew team is hosting a grand opening party tomorrow at their Boyd Street location, from noon to 6 p.m.

Founded by brothers Peter and Todd Mumford, plus Todd’s wife Tien, Mumford Brewing is a homebrew operation gone legit. Peter, a research scientist by trade, spent years working in Napa wineries, and the trio decided after many personal batches of beer to go whole-hog into a Downtown space, complete with brewing system and on-site taproom.

For now, the soft-opening party represents the best first chance to get a look at the Mumford lineup, which will include four different beers: two IPAs, a cream ale, and their flagship American black ale. Tasters, full pints, and growlers will be available for anyone interested in taking some of what they’ve had back home. After the opening, hours will run weekends only: Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday noon to 6 p.m.. Expanded hours will start soon after.
