Ireland’s whitest non-potato export, Bono, was in town with a small rock & roll outfit known as U2 last week. The upstart band apparently kept things pretty casual and under-the-radar, which left the Human Sunglasses himself a little free time to visit Canter’s Deli on Fairfax in Los Angeles for a corned beef sandwich and some fries — allegedly leaving a $150 tip and a lot of hair gel on the table in the process.
News of the outsized tip, which came on a $20 bill of fare, was breathlessly reported by Irish Central, a stateside online publication hellbent on bringing news of the Emerald Isles to the US. Per the report, Bono asked a 50-year old waitress to craft an order for him, and was so smitten with the corned beef sando and 1/2 & 1/2 order of fries and onion rings he got as a result, he dropped a 750% tip on his way out the door that had the staff singin’ Beautiful Day.
What’s more, Irish Central says that Bono loved his meal SO MUCH, he actually talked about it during a show at The Forum, which may or may not have led L.A. transplant / Malibu ruiner / insufferable self nicknamer The Edge to roll his eyes, because everyone knows that Langer’s is better anyway.
