Third Street Promenade's Dingy Old Fast Food Hall Gets Turned to Dust

Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade is getting a food hall revamp, says preeminent Westside restaurant hawk Toddrickallen.

The pocket along the well-walked boulevard that previously held such illustrious dining options as Subway, McDonald’s, and Chinese Gourmet Express has been completely demo’d in anticipation of a flashier redo.

Though at the moment there are no confirmed tenants (returning or otherwise) for the rehabbed space once it opens again at the end of the year, it’s safe to assume some classier stuff is headed that way. For years, the downmarket pocket was one of the dingier parts of the pedestrian thoroughfare, though it did represent one of the last remaining places in the immediate vicinity where it was possible to get a cheap meal.

Toddrickallen shows the cavernous ruin as being completely scraped, and highlights a black and white rendering that indicates lots of glass frontage and a two-level outdoor space could be in the works. The Promenade folks call the eventual location a food hall, which could mean anything really, but hopefully combines newer, fresher concepts with an airier layout.
