Welcome inside Simmzy’s Venice, the latest in what is now a string of successful beer and burger spots dotting the Southland. With longtime outposts in Manhattan Beach and Long Beach (plus a more recent addition in Burbank), the Simmzy’s brand has become synonymous with craft beer and high-end (but moderately priced) pub fare, which means they should fit right into the Venice landscape.
The Simms family restaurant group, which also has a hand in MB Post, Fishing With Dynamite, and The Arthur J, has been looking at Venice for a while, thanks to its tight-knit community and walk-ability. The new location along Washington Boulevard makes for an ideal fit, then, as a tucked-in storefront right near the pier.
The mostly understated room features high-hung string lighting and an open ceiling, with brushed flooring and two long padded runs of seating that help to square up the room. Colorful surfboards hang above a mirrored wall, which gives the smallish space a wider feel, and for even more openness the glass frontage of the restaurant can be pulled back to allow breezy access to the street. Under the bar, a hand-laid wall of glimmering pennies make for a nice, subtly fun decor addition.
As for food, look for daily lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch hours, with a menu that hews closely to the winning formula put forward at other Simmzy’s locations. That means a signature burger, plus pulled pork sandwiches, grilled fish tacos and more. Beer comes from some of the biggest LA brewery names like Strand, plus relative newcomers like Santa Monica Brew Works.
Simmzy’s Venice opens on Friday, with daily hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
