No longer will Los Felizeans be forced to eat weekend breakfast tacos while gazing longingly next door at the closed-up wine stop Bar Covell. Now, thanks to owners Dustin Lancaster and Matthew Kaner (who also own the building that HomeState and the bar are in), Covell is opening up from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays to allow brunchers the chance to drink and dine.
It’s a smart move for both already-bustling businesses in the walkable area, and should prove quite popular. The idea is that customers who want to drink will head directly to Bar Covell, where they’ll have to call in order place online orders to HomeState next door (hey, no waiting in line!). They’ll indicate that they’re drinking next door, and HomeState servers will run over their order for breakfast tacos and migas once it’s all ready.
A few tricky bits, though: don’t expect anything even approaching the full Bar Covell menu during the weekends. This is limited brunch service, which means buckets of Shiner Bock, micheladas, sangria, mimosas, and a bit of wine only. Also, there’s no drinking at HomeState (they’re not permitted for such things), only eating at Covell Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Still, it’s an ongoing weekend party that anyone can get into, so head over tomorrow or Sunday.
