Are the days of trendy speakeasies and hard-to-decipher cocktail menus coming to a close? Perhaps, as evidenced by the recent slate of laid-back, easy drinkin’ bars around town. The most recent iteration is MiniBar, which opens tonight inside of the Best Western on Franklin Avenue, of all places.
Don’t worry, this isn’t a hotel dive spot akin to the former Whitehorse Inn on Western Ave nearby, which was for a time a glowing red beacon of cheap beer hope inside of a Super 8 Motel. Instead, MiniBar looks to bring a quality craft cocktail experience to the Franklin Village/Beachwood Canyon/Hollywood neighborhood, but without any of the pretension.
Jeremy Allen, certified sommelier, is running the joint with the backing of the Little Dom’s/Dominick’s/Cafe 101 team, offering a small collection of whiskies, wines, and beer. As their mini-manifesto says (you can find it on their nascent Yelp page), there will be no foams or flames, just unfussy drinks made by professional bartenders. Check out the menu below.
MiniBar (which shares its name with a booze home delivery service and a Cahuenga Pass bar that shuttered several years ago) looks to open tonight at 5 p.m., and keep daily weekday hours until midnight, before expanding to 2 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
