A southerly move for the Top Chef alum.

Former Top Chef-er Brian Huskey sure does keep busy. The former Eva/Olive & Thyme/Ricardo Zarate group chef spent time taking over Formosa Cafe last year, and still (resumably) has plans to team up with Seoul Sausage’s own Chris Oh to bring a rooftop party to the iconic building sometime in the future.

Now, per the OC Weekly, Huskey is headed for Newport Beach, bringing a simple seafood concept called Tackle Box to the shore. Billing itself as a "local grub shack," the beachy walk-up will be situated right at Corona del Mar beach, behind the lifeguard tower and next to another longtime snack shack.

There are plans to make the takeaway space an all-day affair, with avocado toast, acai bowls, and breakfast burritos in the AM, followed by poké, chowders, fish and chips, and elote in the afternoon. Various sandwiches (as in, lobster rolls, banh mi, and tuna melts) will also be available, plus a daily namesake ‘tackle box,’ which will run as a de facto chef’s special.

As for an official opening, peg Friday, July 10 on your calendar. That’s when the simple surfside shop comes to life.
