Silver Lake lost a legend over the weekend, as Alegria on Sunset shuttered after more than 20 years in business.
The colorful strip mall restaurant had been known for more than two decades as a place for casual Mexican comfort food, with a loose BYOB policy and friendly atmosphere. However, management confirmed to longtime regulars last week that the place would be rather unceremoniously shutting down, marking Saturday as their last night of service. In a call to the restaurant, ownership confirmed the shutter, telling Eater that there were no lease disputes or family fallouts to deal with — everyone just felt like retiring and moving on.
Don’t expect the space to remain quiet forever, though; some big-name operators already well-known for their strip mall success are primed to sign on the dotted line at the location, and (if the rumored names are true) it could spell another long stretch of success for the address.
More to come on that front as the details get confirmed.
